Not Doomed Yet
I'm planning to change the name of my newsletter - to give it more of a focus on climate action. It'd be great to hear what you think.
This newsletter has been a bit of a work in progress since I started writing it a few months ago.
With each edition I’ve been exploring what interests me and what, hopefully may interest you too.
Obviously that reflects the fact that it’s been all change on the work front too this year.
Both in my work and in my writing, I’ve been exploring whether to stay general (reflecting my 25 years in the world of social business) or to focus in more on the climate crisis - and the things we can do to respond.
For now at least, I’ve decided to focus in on the climate crisis
And with that in mind I’m planning to change the title of the newsletter - from The Social Business to Not Doomed Yet.
I’m planning to go with that title to reflect a few things.
We are in a crisis.
There isn’t much time left to sort things out.
But there is still time. We’re not doomed yet.
I’ve been open about how I often feel about it all
And those feelings of despair, anxiety & fear for the future are very much still there.
But I’ve decided that in my work, and in my writing, I’m going to focus, as best I can, on being part of a movement that will get us out of this crisis.
I plan to tell stories of good stuff happening - as I have tried to do regularly over the past few months.
I’ll aim to share stories of people coming together to take action - as it’s those actions that can often give us hope.
As Greta Thunberg said in 2018, ““Once we start to act, hope is everywhere. So instead of looking for hope, look for action. Then, and only then, hope will come.”
I’ll also continue to share inspiring news, links, writing, podcasts, talks etc - all relating in one way or another to how we can build a better world - whilst solving the climate crisis.
And I’ll occasionally dip into the tedious culture wars that surround our response to the climate emergency
But only occasionally.
I have made a conscious decision to step back from Twitter and to focus more on time to writing on here - to try to stop myself from being drawn into arguments that are designed only to divide us and to delay action.
I’ll still get drawn in occasionally of course:
But I’ll mostly focus on stories of people and places taking action to respond to the climate crisis - helping to limit global temperature rises and making a better world in the process.
“Once we start to act, hope is everywhere.”
So let’s see where things go
I’d be interested to know what you think about Not Doomed Yet.
Do you see what I’m getting at? Do you like it? Or should I think again? Have I pinched someone else’s wording without realising?
Please feel free to vote - and/or leave a comment below - either about the name itself, or any thoughts on what you’d be interested in me focusing on.
And thank you for subscribing to my newsletter - I hope you choose to stay with me as things develop.
